ABOUT ME

I’m a UX Designer with a background in the performing arts, which is a fancy way of saying I was an actor for over a decade. If there was ever an industry where these skills could be utilised in a different way, UX was it, be it communicating with users, presenting ideas or general storytelling.

I’ve always been fascinated by why things are designed a certain way and find myself asking “why have they done that?”. So while looking for a career change, human-centred design really caught my attention and I decided to dig deeper into this interest. This led me to the UX Design Immersive course at General Assembly where I’ve learned to develop these interests and focus on improving my presentation and narration skills, this time for the design world.

MY INTERESTS

GOLF

I’ve been playing golf for a long time now (handicap 5).

I think it’s the calming, peaceful nature of the sport that really drew me in.

But when I’m not shouting at my golf ball or throwing my clubs at the nearest bin, I’ve found it’s a great way to try and repress my inner rage and meet new people.

I’ve also witnessed first hand that it’s where all the real business gets done!

ACTING

It’s a love/hate thing.

When things were going well you felt invincible, but when they weren’t you question your whole existence whilst laying in the fetal position on the bathroom floor.

Now it’s a hobby and I can enjoy acting again as a side project whilst UX Design takes centre stage.

I’m hoping these skills will bring something a little bit different to the UX table, either through fresh ideas or my ability to seemingly never get embarrassed!
